Thanksgiving Break Extension & New Guidelines

By order of the Governor of West Virginia:  "From Thanksgiving to the following Thursday (November 26- December 3), no one will go to school. This applies to all 55 counties, as well as public and private schools."

We will post more information about remote learning and provided meals in the near future.

Thank you

Secondary Early Out

Due to a problem in the secondary building, secondary students will be released at noon today. They are able to eat lunch before they leave.   The early release is NOT Covid-19 related.

Students have been directed to take home all text books for the weekend.  Our county has gone from orange to gold this week and we want to be prepared.

For Your Information

Please be aware of the recent information we acquired from the CDC and Nicholas County Health Department.  The following information pertains to anyone that lives with someone whom has tested positive for Covid-19.  This information replaces previous protocols we have in place.  Students will not be able to return to school until after the 14 day quarantine that begins when the Covid-19 patient is released.

Wednesday, October 14, 2020

Progress reports were sent home with elementary students today, and we will send the secondary reports home tomorrow.  Remember to look at RenWeb/FACTS to check your student's grades.  If you need help with that, use the link in the earlier post, or call the office.

Thank you!

We are very pleased to announce that the waiver to extend the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) Seamless Summer Option (SSO) has been extended, through the Secretary of Agriculture, for the purpose of providing meals under the Child Nutrition Program.

This means that ALL New Life Christian Academy students will receive FREE breakfast and lunch throughout the remainder of the school year (2020-2021).  This will go into effect on Thursday, October 14, as we received the information this morning.
In the event that we should move to virtual/remote learning, meals will be available for pickup at the school.  We will send out information about pick-up times if this occurs.

We are thankful to be included in this operative and hope that your child will take advantage of the meals.  To reiterate, after your current balance is paid, you will not receive lunch/breakfast bills for the remainder of this school year as part of a Covid-19 relief program.

UPDATE:  This policy has been put into place, and the lunch/breakfast bills from October 1 will be covered.    If your child chooses an extra milk, or if they are offered and choose a second entree, you will be required to pay for those.

Covid-19 Policy and Procedures

In the event your child is directly exposed to Covid-19

Please refer to the Covid-19 Protocol sheet that explains procedures for your child’s return to school.

After direct/immediate exposure to Covid-19, your child will have to quarantine for 14 days.  If they begin to show any Covid-19 symptoms, please notify us as soon as possible.  To return to campus, the student will need a negative test result that was given within five days of their projected return date.

We encourage you to stay in close contact with your child’s teachers throughout the quarantine period and know that we will do everything we can to help them remain engaged and successful.   You are in our thoughts and prayers, and we are anxious for your child’s return to the classroom.

Thank you for your cooperation and help in keeping our school healthy and safe.

God Bless You,

Mrs. Lucky

We are following the directives of the Nicholas County Health Department and the policies and procedures we have put into place to combat Covid-19.  If anyone in your immediate household has been exposed to the virus or has had a Covid-19 test, please refrain from sending your children to school until a negative test result is received.  Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Being Prepared

The color coded map for West Virginia Schools is updated every Saturday at 5:00 PM.  In the event Nicholas County should move to orange or red, our school must also move to remote learning, until we are able to come back for in-person instruction.  In an effort to be prepared, we will be sending home the student's materials with them each Friday.  Food Lion made a donation to us of reusable shopping bags, and we will send one home with your child filled with their materials.  Please keep all of their books together and in this bag.  You will simply return the bag on Monday mornings when your child comes to school.

It is our prayer that we remain in good standing and can continue five day, in-person instruction.  If this is the case, you will not have to do anything with the material that is sent home on Friday evenings.  Keep it in the bag, and return it on Monday morning.  If not, your teacher will be in touch with you to schedule Zoom instruction and assign Schoology or Seesaw work.

We will follow this protocol each Friday until further notice.  Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.

Pre-K and Kindergarten

We have switched from Schoology to Seesaw for our Pre-K and Kindergarten remote learning option.  Classroom teachers will be helping you to become acquainted with the app and will be working with your children to help them get used to using it should we go to remote/virtual learning.    Thank you for your cooperation.

New Color Codes for WV Map and Covid 19

We sent an email that contained the new color codes for the state of West Virginia.   Although the WV Department of Education Map does not update until Saturday at 5:00 PM, the DHHR map for our states is updated daily.   The WVDE and the DHHR recommend that we follow face covering guidelines for students based on  the color of our county on a daily basis.  Today, our county has gone to yellow.   Students in grades six and up are asked to wear their facial coverings throughout the day and not just in the hallways or congregate areas.
Thank you for your cooperation.

First Day of School Procedures

First Day of School Schedule 2020

Thursday, September 10

We are aware that the first day of school is often a sentimental time for families, and we would like to give you the opportunity to experience this with your child.  On the first day of school, we will have a “picture station” outdoors for you to take pictures of your students.  The health department recommends that we limit the amount of visitors we have on campus and in the school buildings for the upcoming school year, so we are making a schedule for the first day to allow parents of new students the opportunity to walk their students in and drop them off in their classroom.  Of course, if your student is familiar with NLCA and you are comfortable with dropping them off at the door, our teachers and staff will be readily available to welcome them into the building.

7:45-7:55 AM    Last names beginning with A- G

7:55-8:05 AM    Last names beginning with H-M

8:05-8:15 AM    Last names beginning with N-Z

*Masks must be worn as you enter the building, and temperatures will be taken.  If you have a temperature above 100.3, you will not be permitted to enter.

*This schedule is for the First Day of School ONLY.  Only students will enter the building and by greeted by staff and teachers after the first day of school.

Please use the designated door for entering the building.  If you have more than one student, use the door that corresponds with the lowest grade level of your children.

 Cafeteria Door Entrance:

Pre-k through 2nd Grade

 Main Door Entrance:

3rd through 6th Grade

Secondary/Playground Door:

7th through 12th Grade

PICK UP PROCEDURES:

All students will exit through the MAIN DOOR.  Pick up time begins at 2:50.  Please do not line up before 2:40.  This will allow time for the public bus to go through.

Thank you!

School Opening Information ~ Updated September 17, 2020

Featured snippet from the web

Below you will find some information for our return to school on September 10, 2020, please keep in mind that guidelines and regulations change frequently and we may have to change our plans.
  • School drop off will begin at 7:45.  You will receive instruction on which door your child will enter the building in to have their temperature checked each morning.  Only students eating breakfast will go to the cafeteria.  All other students will go to their classroom.  Drop off time will last until 8:10. Class will begin at 8:15.
  • Pick up and drop off instructions have been sent to your email.  School vans and public bus students will be dismissed at 2:30 and parent pick up will begin at 2:50.  Pre-K students will be dismissed at noon, and a van will run to Friends R Fun to drop off students.
  • Each student will have their temperature taken prior to entering school of a morning.
  • Volleyball and all after school activities have been suspended for the 2020 fall season.
  • There is no Lions' Den (after-school care) this year.  We are having extra cleaning and sanitizing done in the evenings, and the campus must be empty of students and teachers.
  • Each desk will have a plastic 3-part guard on them.
  • Masks are not required in the classroom, as long as social distancing can be observed, but they will be used in the hallways and in high traffic areas. Every student needs to wear a mask when checking into school for the day, and during evening departure.  We will provide them if they do not have one.  Students are permitted to wear masks anytime throughout the day and may be required to wear them during certain times. *Should our county change colors on the state map, we may be required to wear facial coverings during the school day.  We will comply with the state regulations.
  • Masks do need to be worn on the school vans, and temperatures will be checked prior to students getting on the van of a morning and evening.
  • Lunch and recess will occur by class.  Recess may not follow lunch, but every class will get a recess.  Lunch may be served in the cafeteria, old gym, and outside.  Students will get to leave their classroom to eat lunch.
  • We suggest brown bags, or plastic bags for packed lunches.  Disposable lunch containers are preferred.  If you cannot use disposable bags, please keep the lunchbox small enough to fit inside the drawstring backpack.
  • Elementary students need to use a drawstring backpack if at all possible.  They are smaller and make it easier to hang in personal spaces. *The guidelines suggest that we have individual space for each student.  Doing your part to help us with this would by greatly appreciated as we have limited space.
  • Students that have an electronic device need to bring them to school each day so that we can help educate them on using the programs we will use should we need to go to remote learning at any time during the school year.
  • Water fountains will be decommissioned.  Students are encouraged to bring bottled water, or water in a container that has a lid.
  • Hand sanitizing stations have been placed outside of each classroom, as well as hand sanitizer in the rooms.  Students will use this and wash their hands frequently throughout the day.
  • Touchless water faucets and soap dispensers have been installed in each restroom.
  • Chapel will be held virtually in each classroom.  Teachers will connect to the zoom meeting so that we can all worship together and be taught the same lesson each week.

Working Together

If you are sending an electronic device to school with your child, or have a device to use at home with them, please download the Schoology  for grades 1-12, and Seesaw for pre-K and Kindergarten.  They will be taught to access Zoom.    These are the sites we will be using if we need to go to remote/virtual learning.

If they bring the device to school with the apps downloaded and ready to use (account set up), we will help them to learn how to navigate the sites.  Thank you for working with us to ensure that your child has a successful school year!
